Construction Associate (Non-Contentious), 3-5 PQE
About Withers
A law firm focused on people, performance, and collaboration.
For the past 125 years, we have supported some of the world’s most remarkable people and organisations at defining moments in their lives.
As the global private client firm, we are trusted advisors to families, founders, fiduciaries and businesses – and more than this, to governments, charities and financial institutions.
We structure, grow and preserve capital. We protect reputations and relationships, ideas and innovations. We secure our clients' legacies across generations. We are united in our commitment to integrity, quality and collaboration. We have a culture of high performance and deliver excellent service consistently across the firm. We provide tailored solutions built on trust and partner with our clients to achieve their goals.
Many of our clients are shaping the future and creating solutions to tackle many of the world’s problems. It makes for a fascinating and challenging practice.
Our role is to get to know each individual client, find out where they want to be, and help them to get there – whether they are building a business, buying a home or protecting and defending their interests.
To meet their unique needs we are exceptionally collaborative, working together across teams and time zones. And we are agile – focusing on strategy rather than rigid ideas and traditional hierarchy.
We are delighted that we have been awarded Mansfield Certification Plus in relation to our recruitment and leadership progression efforts in the US and UK. This certification is an encouraging milestone as we continue to champion diversity within our organization and in the wider legal sector.
Join us to be part of a team that is always looking to the future. Where initiative, big ideas and bold moves are always encouraged. Where you can truly be yourself.
The team
Our Real Estate practice is well respected and diverse in the market, spanning commercial, construction, residential, rural and property‑related litigation. The Construction team is a small-knit team and sits within this offering — collaborating seamlessly across sectors and geographies.
We act for an enviable and high‑profile client base, including:
- Entrepreneurs, ultra‑high‑net‑worth individuals and family offices
- Property companies, lenders, banks and funds
- Luxury brands, hospitality and retail operators
- Major non‑profits and charitable institutions
Our track record includes advising:
- 70% of the top 100 individuals in The Sunday Times Rich List
- Iconic brands such as Soho House
- Leading national charities such as Great Ormond Street Children's Charity, UCLH Charity, and the Salvation Army
The breadth, complexity and international nature of our work means you'll regularly collaborate with colleagues across corporate, finance, tax, private client and our overseas offices.
The role
We are looking for a talented 3-5 PQE Construction Associate, focussing predominantly on non-contentious work, to join our London team.
You will enjoy a genuinely varied mix of development and construction advisory work, operating both autonomously and as part of our wider commercial, residential and landed estates teams.
You will have the opportunity to work on high‑value, sophisticated and often unique projects for clients who expect — and appreciate — technical excellence allied with commercial intelligence.
Areas of focus and responsibilities
You'll demonstrate confidence and enthusiasm for all aspects of construction law, including:
- Drafting bespoke construction contracts and tailoring amendments to industry‑standard forms
- Advising on construction elements of facility agreements and agreements for lease
- Working knowledge of procurement, tendering and public-sector processes
- Providing commercially astute advice that reflects evolving procurement trends and market practice
This list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive. It is intended to describe the general content and requirements for the performance of this job and, as such, the role may include the undertaking of additional tasks as required.
Key skills and experience
We are looking for someone who brings both technical ability and a collaborative mindset. You will likely have:
- 3-5 years' PQE in non‑contentious construction
- Strong academics and excellent drafting and negotiation skills
- A confident, clear communication style with a genuine interest in building successful long-term relationships internally and externally
- A proactive, positive and engaged approach
- The ability to take responsibility early and work with colleagues across the wider Real Estate group
- A commercial, pragmatic and can-do mindset
- Enthusiasm for business development and contributing to client growth
- Comfort with technology and modern ways of working
The essentials
- Standard working hours: 9.30am – 5.30pm but flexibility is a must
- Hybrid working (a minimum of 2-3 days per week on average in the office)
- Flexible benefit package
