The Department

The Library and Knowledge Services (LKS) team is a global function team working together and are responsible for ensuring that everyone in the firm has the knowledge, information and resources they need in order to complete their work to the highest possible standards.

The recent growth of Withers in the Asia-Pacific region has created an exciting opportunity for a new role within the team. Working with closely with LKS colleagues in other offices, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and supporting delivery of the firm's knowledge management strategy for the Asia-Pacific region.

The role

An important priority for the role will be to provide support to the Library and Knowledge Manager (APAC). This is a new role within the region so the successful candidate will need to be confident working on their own but will have full support from colleagues in the global LKS team. There will be line management responsibility for the Singapore office librarian.

There will also be opportunities to work with the London LKS team and to provide research for strategic and Business Development initiatives, as required.

The role is based in Singapore and will report to the Library and Knowledge Manager (APAC).

Key Skills and Experience 

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
  • Able to communicate with people at all levels of seniority
  • Self-sufficient; able to work independently locally but as part of a wider team delivering a consistent global service
  • Pro-active, customer-focused attitude to knowledge sharing
  • Excellent IT skills, ideally with experience of maintaining and curating intranet content
  • Experienced at using own initiative to find solutions to questions or problems and committed to seeing new projects through to completion
  • Able to work to deadlines, manage multiple projects and deliver under pressure

Initial areas of focus and responsibilities

  • Conducting library orientation for lawyers, trainees and interns
  • Responsible for managing new joiner and leaver procedures for the Hong Kong and Singapore offices, including the creation/deactivation of system logins and the distribution of welcome emails.

Managing resources 

  • Assisting with book purchases, including liaising with lawyers and contacts in other offices to determine what's needed
  • Compiling information to assist the Manager in setting the annual library budget for the Singapore / Hong Kong office; helping to monitor monthly spend
  • Attending team meetings to promote library services
  • Updating and maintaining the library catalogue for both HK/SG office (purchases, renewals and invoices), ensuring all records are correct
  • Creating, maintaining and promoting the use of library and knowledge content on the firm's intranet
  • Overseeing the upkeep of the physical library collections in both HK/SG offices
  • Assisting with trials and evaluations of new tools and services

Areas to expand into

  • Sending out updates to lawyers on legal and client-related news
  • Assisting with legal and business research requests
